Which devices does Spellsketch work on?

iPhone and iPad with TODO: iOS version or later.

Where do I get the app?

On the App Store, for iPhone and iPad: TODO: App Store link. It’s free to start.

Who is it for?

People learning basic English: children learning with a parent nearby, and adult beginners too. It isn’t for people who already speak fluently or anyone preparing for an exam. The app doesn’t ask your age. When you start, you add a member with a nickname; everyone starts at the normal level and can change it any time. More on our About page.

Why isn’t something I said in the picture?

Your picture only grows with things that are in today’s picture. If you mention something that isn’t there, it isn’t drawn, and the app tells you it’s not in the picture. Precise means not adding things, too.

I said it right, but the app missed it.

Our judging can be wrong. Please report it from the result screen. We read reports and use them to fix mistakes.

Speaking doesn’t work.

In the Settings app, open Spellsketch and allow Microphone and Speech Recognition. Speech is turned into text on your device, and your picture grows as you speak. You can always type instead.

The app says my description can’t be used.

Every description is checked against our content rules, which are the same for everyone. Try saying it another way. A description that doesn’t pass doesn’t use up a try.

Is it free?

Yes. The free plan includes the starter pack of words, the daily pictures (up to 15 tries a day, three per picture), your Spell Book and drawing with the words you’ve learned, and each member’s progress page. The paid plan adds every word pack as new ones come out, more tries a day, and up to three members on one account. Prices are shown in the app before you buy and depend on your country.

How do I cancel my subscription?

1. Open the Settings app and tap your name.
2. Tap Subscriptions, then Spellsketch.
3. Tap Cancel Subscription.

Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date to avoid the next charge. You keep the paid plan until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app or your account doesn’t cancel the subscription.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles refunds for App Store purchases. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. For a founding membership bought on our website, email us.

I bought a subscription but the app doesn’t show it.

Make sure you’re signed in to the App Store with the Apple Account you paid with, then tap Restore Purchases on the subscription screen in the app. If it still doesn’t show, email us.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to TODO: Settings → Account → Delete account and confirm. This deletes your account and everything in it right away: all profiles, descriptions, results, Spell Books and usage data. Copies in our encrypted backups are gone within 30 days. It can’t be undone.

Deleting your account doesn’t cancel an App Store subscription; cancel it first. If you can’t open the app, email us from the email address on your account and we’ll delete it for you.

How do I delete a profile?

In the app, the account holder can delete a profile under TODO: Settings → Profiles. That profile’s descriptions, results and Spell Book are deleted; other profiles aren’t affected.

Who can use Spellsketch?

Only adults can create an account. Anyone the account holder chooses can practice in a profile on that account, and each profile has its own progress and settings. There are no separate profile types and no extra checks.

Do you record my voice?

No. Your device turns speech into text, and only the text is sent. We never receive audio.

Which email address do you have?

The one from the account you signed in with. With Google, it’s your Google account’s address. With Apple, it’s the one you chose to share; if you picked Hide My Email, we only have Apple’s relay address, which forwards to you. To see the Apple address, open the Settings app, tap your name, then Sign-In & Security, then Sign in with Apple.

I signed in and my progress is gone.

You may have signed in a different way than before. Sign out and sign in again with the one you used first, Apple or Google. If you used Hide My Email with Apple, signing in with Google gives you a separate account. Still missing? Email us.

What data do you keep?

Very little: no real names, photos, recordings or location. Read the Privacy Policy for the full list, and the Terms of Use for the rules.
